Unfortunately whilst I was visiting home, I got 2 calls in 2 days from both Ian (skater) and Harvey (Squareone) telling me that they have had to pull out for various reasons. This has left me in a situation where I have two options. I carry on and find another skater and clothing label, or I have a complete re-think about my idea. Due to time, I cannot hang around making decisions as everyday at this stage is vital. Luckily I have picked up work for MTV which would be classed as a live brief if I was to use that for this module. It would be a good opportunity to show people how I would respond to a live professional brief instead of people just seeing the end product of corporate videos I have done in the past. I have not yet got the brief through but I know there will be a certain structure they want for the video which means it will be working to there expectations not my own unlike other work I have done in the past. Also I think it will be a good opportunity to get some academic feedback about my professional work which would be very helpful, positive or negative.
Going back to getting let down by my skater and clothing label, I really need to think about what may have caused them to pull out and how I could have prevented it from happening. My skater Ian said he had a lot of work due to him being in his 3rd year which isn't really something I could help but then should have explained the time it was going to take up a lot clearer and maybe get some dates together early for them to give me a yes or no answer. For my clothing label Squareone, was my pitch good enough? Did they know enough information on what was going on? Did they know what the benefits would have been for them if they were involved? I do think that if they knew a lot clearer that this was a promotional video for them at a high standard which they were not going to have to pay anything for I think they would have tried a lot harder to get together some items which I would have been able to use. There reason for backing out was because they didn't have the stock to lend out. Which leads me onto, should I have offered to buy the items, but If I am offering to put a promotional video together I don't think I should be the one spending the money. There are a lot of things I can take away from this experience which I will cover in my evaluation.
