I have put together a mood board that includes the type of shots I would like to capture during my shoot for MTV. A lot of these require similar pieces of equipment that I would be able to get hold of. I think the key to a good video is to have various shot types with different focal lengths to mix it up a bit. I find that videos that use the same lens again and again can be quite bland and repetitive so I will be looking to take around 3-4 lenses with me. My 50mm 1.4 will be used. I like using this lens as the shallow depth of field looks beautiful and with the event starting at 9pm, its the time where I am going to loose a lot of light so a 1.4 aperture is perfect. If there is a chance, I would love to get shots of people on shoulders. The easiest and best way to capture this visually would be to use a lager focal length lens such as a 200/300mm lens which would be used for sniping. Getting this shot isn't 100% guaranteed but if the opportunity came it would be fantastic. I will most probably take the 300mm 2.8 prime from photography. Its the biggest focal length with the smallest aperture so in low light it will cope well still. Wide angle shots will be used mainly for showing how busy a place is. Getting everyone into one shot can only be done by using a wide angled lens unless you have hundreds of metres to manoeuvre which I am pretty sure I haven't got.
I am mostly looking forward to getting shots with shallow depth of field. As much as this video is about the brand. I want to make it look aesthetically nice. I have chosen to shoot on a 5d mk 3 because I will get the best use out of the lenses I want to use. The 300mm on a cropped sensor (my 7d) would be too much and so would a 50mm as it would actually be around 80mm. I chose not to use an XD cam because it wouldn't give me visually what I want.
