Modelling the Alien

When we first got asked to model the Alien character which Matt designed, I was completly comfortable with the task. This time last year if we was asked to do something like this, I would have completly ran away from it. Working through a lot of YouTube tutorials last year helped a great deal. It only took a quick refresher on maya to get straight back into it. Something that was completly new to me was facial Modeling, which i didn't find to difficult in the end. Looking on google at human and creature topologies really helped in looking at some really nice poly mesh. My first attempted didn't go to plan. I found that I used to many split edge loops made things a lot harder. It was very easy to get confused and end up with a messy mesh. Keeping it low poly was defiantly the easiest way to get a successful mesh, espesh ally in the face.

The arms were quite challenging for me. If you don't think about it much, you could easily model arms wrong. We have to remember the fact we have elbows which means we have to take into account that their is going to be a joint somewhere for when it comes to rigging. In the end I felt I got an ok result with the arms. But it is defiantly something that needs to be worked on.
