Here I was just playing around with the Transform effect in the effects tab. Jeff is keyed out from the green screen and then put over the top of footage we shot of the rest of the group running away from the attack. It is very simple but still gives the impression of Jeff being sucked up into the space ship. With sound I think it would be a lot more effective but I was looking for something a bit more hard hitting.
After getting some stock alpha footage of different smoke effects and explosions. I started to play around with making people disappear into thin air. The clip below is again shot with a green screen layer and the take where everyone is running away. I applied a smoke effect clip just as the opacity of Jeff is around 50% from 100 - 0 in around 3 or 4 frames. The clip is colour graded which I will talk about in another blog post.
The next video is a test I did using a simular technique as I did for the one above but it is without a green screen. All I did was create a freeze frame of the shot without anyone in and then on a duplicate layer get to a point where the actor is in the clip on their own and then I used the same process as I did before. Changing the opacity and then applying the smoke effect as the opacity is dropping. I also added a radial blur to the teleport to make it look like the actor has been sucked into life and back out. I added the blur, selected the target I wanted it to blur from which was the centre of my actor and then masked around actor to stop the blur from effecting any other space in the shot.
