There were a couple of ways to go about modelling the dreadlocks for my character. One was to draw a CV Curve to the shape of one of the dreads and then create a NURBS circle which would then follow the curve to make 1 dreadlock. Another would be just a cylinder extruded several times.
I used the method using the CV Curve Tool and then duplicating the 1 dreadlock make create all the others. Every time I duplicated 1 dread I would then move some of the vertices around to make each dread look and make them fall in different directions. I quickly modelled a band to go around the dreadlocks by simply using a Helix and then I duplicated it twice to make the 3 bands.
